Mechanical Engineering Lead
SUMMARY
Sentient Energy in Frisco, TX is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Mechanical Engineering Lead. This role will provide technical leadership and development for the design of Sentient’s family of product platforms. You will develop robust mechanical solutions required in the demanding environment of the high voltage power distribution grid. You will mentor and expand the mechanical engineering team to evolve with Sentient’s increasing scope and scale.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set the technical directions for the team, drive the evolution of the mechanical designs, and make appropriate technology choices
- Work effectively with product managers, project managers, engineers, and the senior management team to allocate engineering resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer’s/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap needs
- Develop mechanical concepts, proposed features, design, model, and test prototypes for products
- Work independently, set individual goals, and motivate team members
- Produce 3-D CAD files of designs using SolidWorks including final CAD files, vendor drawings, and specifications
- Perform advanced modeling and analysis of complete assemblies or product elements
- Define key performance criteria and design appropriate test protocols to ensure reliable product performance
- Provide detailed reports of analysis both numerically and graphically to aid in defining the requirements necessary for reliability and structural stability
- Identify and select materials
- Create bill of materials for total assembly and sub-components
- List costs involved in production
- Produce samples of working models for demonstration
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering on production processes
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering OR equivalent practical experience and High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years leadership experience including design of Injection molded components and Injection mold tool design
- 3D CAD, preferably Solidworks, experience
- Experience managing direct reports OR managing project teams
- Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, DVT, test and delivery of high performing, technically complex, reliable and robust hardware
- Experience solving complex mechanical problems in the areas of outdoor ruggedized products, product manufacturability, strength of materials, and user experience
- Experience in trouble shooting and failure analysis
- Thermoplastic injection molding and injection compression molding processes experience
- Plastic materials experience with both Thermoplastic and Thermoset materials
- Design brackets for harsh environments, materials such as steel and stainless steel
- Design enclosures that are constructed of sheet metal for IT room type of installation, this could be folded sheet metal as an example.
What will put you ahead:
- Familiarity with Propel or other similar PLM tools such as Agile or Arena Solutions
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma techniques
- Familiarity with IP68 or equivalent submersible design
- 5 years’ experience managing direct reports
- 10+ years mechanical design experience
- Simulation modeling expertise for component stress analysis
- DFM expertise for plastic assemblies and assembly tolerance analysis
